Nexus One: The New Google Smartphone

Nexus One is the new Smartphone from Google manufactured by HTC and became available on January 5, 2010. It runs on the Google Android 2.1 operating system and its Features are the ability to transcribe voice to text, noise canceling dual microphones, voice directions while driving, and open source platform.

Other features include a 1 GHz Qualcomm 8250 processor, 512 MB of RAM, a 4 GB micro SD card, 512 MB of internal Flash storage, a 5MP auto-focus camera with LED flash and digital zoom, GPS receiver, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, and a 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi.

The phone weights 130 grams, 119 mm height, 59.8 mm width, and 11.5 mm depth. Battery is estimated to last up to 290 hours on standby, 10 hours talk time, or 5 hours while browsing the internet.

The phone sold unlocked and can be used on any GSM or Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n) network worldwide. Google currently offers it for use on the T-Mobile network in the United States although in 2-3 months it is expected to be workable on the Verizon (US) and Vodafone (European) networks. The phone is also can be purchased through Google’s website, at a price of $529 unlocked, or $179 when purchased with a T-Mobile two year contract.

Many are curious to know if the Nexus One is a better phone than the other Smartphones and in particular the iPhone. It is a big debate and a wide range of opinions, yet it could be concluded that the new Nexus One has a better price, carrier, camera and battery life, but the iPhone is not too far from the competition as it has other features which the Nexus One doesn’t such as iTunes and a better advertising strategy.
